DENTAL RADIOLOGY

Dental radiology includes the periapical film (PAX) to visualize periapical pathology, bitewing films to identify occlusal and interpromimal dental caries, occlusal films most commonly to identify submandibular sialolithiasis, the panorex (panoramic radiograph or orthopantomogram) is a two-dimensional view of the bones and dentition of the upper and lower dental arches.

DIGITAL OPG

DIGITAL X-Ray and OPG

An Orthopantomogram (OPG) X-ray is a two-dimensional, panoramic dental X-ray, uses a single film to capture the teeth, jawbones, and surrounding structures.

Advantages of an OPG over a small IOPA x-ray.

• An OPG also demonstrates the number, position and growth of all the teeth including those that have not yet surfaced or erupted through the gum. It is different from the small close up x-rays dentists take of individual teeth.

• This can be particularly useful to check hard to see areas like wisdom teeth, or the development of a child’s jaw and teeth, useful for assessing for development generally, but also orthodontic need.

• With a broad coverage it is also often used to check your jaw joint, the TMJ (temperomandibular joint), sometimes called the CMA (cranio-mandibular articulation), especially if you grind your teeth.

• OPG is used to determine the bone levels and bony defects in patients of Chronic Periodontitis.

• Low patient radiation dose

• Ability to be used in patients who are restricted in opening their mouth

• Useful visual aid in patient education and case presentation

Your dentist will ask you to remove any jewellery or metallic items from around the head and neck area as it can interfere with the image, blocking the x-ray beam.

Where can I get an OPG ?

At HealthPort Medicare we have Vatech Latest Paxi Plus OPG machine on site for your convenience and the images are produced digitally and stored in your digital file with all your other x-rays. The image is produced within seconds of the OPG being taken and your dentist will review it with you at the end of the appointment. This can be as part of a dental check up, or seperate appointment. An OPG is just one diagnostic tool your dentist will use to ensure you maintain your dental health and prevent unnecessary dental issues.

DIGITAL RVG

Digital Radiovisiography (RVG) is an advanced dental imaging technology that utilizes digital sensors to capture detailed images of the teeth, gums, and surrounding bone structures. Unlike traditional x-rays, which use film, digital RVG produces high-resolution images instantly, significantly reducing the waiting time for both dentists and patients. This technology enhances diagnostic accuracy, allowing for more precise identification of dental issues such as cavities, fractures, and periodontal disease.

Additionally, digital RVG exposes patients to significantly lower levels of radiation compared to conventional x-rays, making it a safer option for routine dental imaging.

The benefits of digital RVG extend beyond improved diagnostics and safety. The digital images can be easily stored, retrieved, and shared electronically, facilitating seamless communication between dental professionals and enhancing patient care.

This technology also allows for enhanced image manipulation, such as zooming in on specific areas or adjusting contrast, which aids in a more thorough examination and diagnosis. Furthermore, the use of digital RVG supports a more environmentally friendly approach by eliminating the need for chemical processing and film, reducing waste. Overall, digital RVG represents a significant advancement in dental imaging, contributing to more effective, efficient, and patient-friendly dental care.
